Pelotas
Pioneer Creek has been used as an informal dump for years. This June, 87 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 45 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good. We have a plan agreed with the local forestry office, including native species selected by a local botanist. The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade. All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials. We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted. Where the $700 goes: • Signage and educational materials: $75 • Native saplings and stakes: $430 • Tools and protective gear: $195 Thank you for reading my story.

  • Keep going, Gabriela. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it. God bless.

    • shared it with a few friends. I hope September is when things finally get easier. Thinking of Pelotas

      • sending strength, Gabriela. This could happen to any of us. After 23 years in social work I know how hard it's to ask for anything

        • Hang in there. Hope this works out for you. I went through something like this 10 years ago and strangers helped me out.

          • Wishing you the best, Gabriela. Your post was clear and honest. All the best
