Unathi is the first person in the family to go to university. She is studying a computer science degree at the Pretoria Institute of Technology, and is one term away from graduating. She has worked as a shop assistant to pay the way, but this term the hours were cut and there's an unpaid balance of $1,250.
The registrar has said Unathi can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. Unathi has a 3.8 average, and a professor has written in support.
Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support the younger siblings. Without enrolling this term Unathi would lose her place and scholarship eligibility.
Unathi isn't asking for a handout - She wants to finish what She started and help the next student.
The payment will go directly to the the Pretoria Institute of Technology bursar's office. I'll post the receipt.
Where the $1,250 goes:
• Final term tuition: $730
• Textbooks and materials: $55
• Outstanding tuition balance: $465
Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.
