I live with a spinal cord injury. My occupational therapist at the Manukau Rehabilitation Centre has assessed me and recommended a pair of hearing aids. The public scheme doesn't cover it, and the quote from the supplier is $5,500.
My current equipment is 9 years old and keeps breaking, which has confined me to home for 6 weeks.
With the right equipment I could attend work interviews. It would change my everyday life and my ability to work from home.
We've applied to two charities already and received small contributions; this campaign covers the rest.
I'll pay the supplier directly from the funds, and I'll post a photo once the equipment is delivered.
Where the $5,500 goes:
• pair of hearing aids: $5,000
• Fitting and training sessions: $290
• Delivery and set-up: $60
• First-year servicing plan: $150
