Agra
For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a rainwater harvesting system. This year a group of 15 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Jacaranda health centre yard, but no funding. We have received donated a pump, and the remaining cost is $500. It will serve about 535 people, including young people who have nowhere safe to play. We'll hold a build day in October and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance. Where the $500 goes: • Materials: $380 • Permits and inspections: $50 • Safety equipment and signage: $25 • Tools hire and delivery: $45 Glad we found this place.

I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. After 15 years in public service I know how hard it's to ask for anything.
