Zanzibar City
For twelve years the neighborhood has asked for a free library and reading room. This year a group of 30 volunteers, including a group of teenagers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Baobab vacant lot, but no funding. We have received donated tools, and the remaining cost is $100. It will serve about 555 people, including young people who have nowhere safe to play. We'll hold a build day in July and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance. Where the $100 goes: • Tools hire and delivery: $35 • Safety equipment and signage: $40 • Permits and inspections: $25 I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen. - Akoth

Updates from Akoth

  1. Update from Zanzibar City: I met with the suppliers and confirmed the amounts. We're at 67% of the goal. Thank you for believing in us.

  2. We're at 60% thanks to 2 of you. the plan for safety equipment and signage is now scheduled. More news soon.

  3. Good news. Because of your gifts ($15 in total) I made the first payment toward tools hire and delivery. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

  • Sending good thoughts, Akoth. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. Take care

    • more neighborhoods should do this. We're a small family in Thủ Đức but we're thinking of you.
