Let's build a free library and reading room together in Los Angeles
A community-led a free library and reading room at Jacaranda Primary School that will serve 448 neighbors.

For ten years the neighborhood has asked for a free library and reading room. This year a group of 27 volunteers, including two retired carpenters, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Jacaranda Primary School, but no funding.
We have received donated tools, and the remaining cost is $2,300.
It will serve about 448 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in June and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $2,300 goes:
• Materials: $1,300
• Permits and inspections: $240
• Safety equipment and signage: $440
• Tools hire and delivery: $320
Ask me anything below before you decide. I'd rather you were sure.

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Cristina.
Sure. The biggest one is materials, $1,300. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. Let me know if you want more detail.
Hope this works out for you. Love from Portland.
Stay strong. Great idea, hope you get there. I went through something like this 11 years ago and strangers helped me out. God bless
Hope you get there. Thinking of Los Angeles.
