Knee replacement surgery for Rosa: covering what insurance won't
After a torn ligament that needs reconstruction, Rosa was cleared for knee replacement surgery, but the bill is more than we can manage.

In June I was diagnosed with a torn ligament that needs reconstruction. My surgeon at Guadalajara University Hospital recommended knee replacement surgery, and I have been placed on the schedule for October. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $3,400, and after what my insurance will pay, I'm still $1,700 short.
Doctors at Guadalajara University Hospital told me a torn ligament that needs reconstruction will get worse without knee replacement surgery. I work as a delivery rider, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $3,400 is far beyond what I've.
Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a delivery rider have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk.
Recovery is expected to take about 5 weeks. I'll not be able to walk without help during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one.
I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.
Where the $1,700 goes:
• Physiotherapy sessions: $200
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $860
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $185
• Post-operative medication: $90
• Hospital stay (3 nights): $365
I hope life is good to you.
