Keep a roof over Kariuki's head in Kasarani
A sudden layoff left Kariuki short on rent for 3 months; help us stay in our home.
🇰🇪 Kasarani, Nairobi, Kenya1,098 views
After a car accident that kept me from work for 6 weeks, I fell 3 months behind on rent. Last Wednesday a notice to vacate was taped to my door, and the amount I owe is $550.
My landlord has been understanding for a while, but he has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by October, we must leave.
I have three school-aged children at home. Moving isn't just an expense - it would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else.
I have started working evenings as a cleaner, and I'm applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here.
Funds go to the landlord and nowhere else. Any amount left over after the arrears are cleared will go toward next month's rent.
Where the $550 goes:
• Rent arrears (3 months): $350
• Late fees and court costs: $45
• Utilities in arrears: $40
• First month of rent as a buffer: $115
I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to.

Good news. Because of your gifts ($88 in total) the first invoice got paid this week. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

Rooting for you, Kariuki. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Don't be hard on yourself for asking
