After a car accident that kept me from work for 12 weeks, I fell 2 months behind on rent. Last Friday a court summons for non-payment was taped to my door, and the amount I owe is $3,050. My landlord has been understanding for a while, but he has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by July, we must leave. I have a toddler and a baby at home. Moving isn't just an expense - it would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else. I have started working weekend shifts, and I'm applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here. Funds go to the landlord and nowhere else. Any amount left over after the arrears are cleared will go toward next month's rent. Where the $3,050 goes: • Rent arrears (2 months): $2,350 • First month of rent as a buffer: $590 • Utilities in arrears: $110 Thanks for reading all this. - Annelies

  1. We're at 23% thanks to 13 of you. I made the first payment toward first month of rent as a buffer. More news soon.

  2. 7% there. I made the first payment toward utilities in arrears. Thank you.

  3. Thank you all. We're at 5% now ($162). I'm honestly stunned. I made the first payment toward rent arrears.

A secure home matters so much. Hope you're settled soon. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. Greetings from Casablanca.
