Keep a roof over Akua's head in Accra
A termination letter arrived last week. Akua needs $450 to clear the arrears and stay housed in Accra.

After a sudden layoff at the packaging plant, Akua fell 5 months behind on rent. Last Sunday a termination letter was taped to the door, and the amount owed is $450.
The landlord was understanding for a while, but has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by October, the family must leave.
There are a toddler and a baby at home. Moving would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else.
Akua has started working extra hours at a market stall, and is applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here.
Funds go to the landlord and nowhere else. Any amount left over after the arrears are cleared will go toward next month's rent.
Where the $450 goes:
• Rent arrears (5 months): $220
• Late fees and court costs: $50
• Utilities in arrears: $25
• First month of rent as a buffer: $155
I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to.

Keep going, Linda. This could happen to any of us. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too.
