Justice shouldn't depend on a bank balance: Songül's asylum application
Songül needs $150 for filing fees and representation in an asylum application before the December deadline.
🇹🇷 Türkiye127 views
Songül is facing an asylum application. The hearing is scheduled for December, and the filing fees and the lawyer's retainer come to $150. Three legal-aid offices have said their waiting lists are longer than the deadline.
Songül has all the paperwork ready, and a caseworker at Istanbul Welcome Centre has confirmed that the case is valid.
If the deadline is missed Songül could lose the right to stay with the family and the job. The children were born here and this is the only home they know.
Funds cover only the filing fees, translations and attorney retainer.
Where the $150 goes:
• Court-appointed interpreter and travel: $20
• Certified translations and document copies: $35
• Filing and biometrics fees: $95
I hope life is good to you.

Thinking of you and your family, Furkan. Gave what I could, wish it was more. All the best
Thinking of you, Furkan. This could happen to any of us.
Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. My husband and I read this together. Love from Contagem.
Wishing you the best, Furkan. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. Our whole street has been following this since the weekend. Thinking of Istanbul.
So sorry you're going through this. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. After 8 years in engineering I know how hard it's to ask for anything. All the best
best of luck, Furkan. I hope things turn around soon.
