Justice shouldn't depend on a bank balance: Rocío's work-permit appeal
Rocío needs $2,900 for filing fees and representation in a work-permit appeal before the December deadline.

I'm facing a work-permit appeal. My hearing is scheduled for December, and the filing fees and the lawyer's retainer come to $2,900. I have been told by three legal-aid offices that their waiting list is longer than my deadline.
I have all of my paperwork ready, and my caseworker at San Jose Welcome Centre has confirmed that my case is valid.
If I miss the deadline I could lose my right to stay with my family and my job. My children were born here and this is the only home they know.
I'll share any non-sensitive updates as the case moves along.
Funds cover only the filing fees, translations and attorney retainer.
Where the $2,900 goes:
• Court-appointed interpreter and travel: $85
• Attorney retainer: $2,600
• Certified translations and document copies: $215
Thanks for reading all this.

Sending good thoughts, Rocío. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. Take care
Stay strong, Rocío. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. The breakdown of costs made it easy to trust. Blessings.
Take care, Rocío. It takes guts to ask. Well done. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too!
gave what I could, wish it was more. Our whole street has been following this since the weekend. Blessings
