Justice shouldn't depend on a bank balance: Deepa's citizenship application
A citizenship application deadline is approaching and Deepa can't afford the lawyer.
🇮🇳 Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India969 views
Deepa is facing a citizenship application. The hearing is scheduled for November, and the filing fees and the lawyer's retainer come to $550. Three legal-aid offices have said their waiting lists are longer than the deadline.
Deepa has all the paperwork ready, and a caseworker at Lucknow Welcome Centre has confirmed that the case is valid.
If the deadline is missed Deepa could lose the right to stay with the family and the job. The children were born here and this is the only home they know.
The money goes to the immigration attorney's trust account and the court filing office. I'll upload receipts with sensitive details removed.
Where the $550 goes:
• Attorney retainer: $430
• Filing and biometrics fees: $55
• Certified translations and document copies: $15
• Court-appointed interpreter and travel: $50
Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.

Stay strong. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. Greetings from Awka.
Take care. I hope things turn around soon. Our whole street has been following this since the weekend. Greetings from Kraków.
