Julia was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor in August. The surgeon at Vancouver University Hospital recommended hip replacement surgery, and She is scheduled for November. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $9,500, and after what the government subsidy will pay we're still $7,500 short. my wife has been in and out of Vancouver University Hospital since August. The doctors say a benign brain tumor will get worse without hip replacement surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $9,500 is more than we can find. While we wait, Julia struggles with daily life and can't stand for more than ten minutes. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Recovery is expected to take about 12 weeks. During that time Julia won't be able to stand for more than ten minutes, so the costs keep growing.
