In January I was diagnosed with stomach cancer. My oncology team at Barcelona Regional Medical Center has planned 10 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in March. I was told to expect about 5 weeks away from work. I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 50, I worked as a taxi driver until January, and I have been the main earner for my household. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Barcelona Regional Medical Center 2 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly. My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries. Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment. Where the $7,600 goes: • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $4,850 • Scans and lab work: $720 • Transport to Barcelona Regional Medical Center: $770 • Household costs while unable to work: $1,260 Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.
