Hip replacement surgery for Rami: covering what insurance won't
After a thyroid nodule that needs removal, Rami was cleared for hip replacement surgery, but the bill is more than we can manage.

Rami was diagnosed with a thyroid nodule that needs removal in May. The surgeon at Zagazig Regional Medical Center recommended hip replacement surgery, and He is scheduled for August. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $1,150, and after what the government subsidy will pay we're still $700 short.
my son has been in and out of Zagazig Regional Medical Center since May. The doctors say a thyroid nodule that needs removal will get worse without hip replacement surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $1,150 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Rami struggles with daily life and can't work a full shift. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
Recovery is expected to take about 8 weeks. During that time Rami won't be able to work a full shift, so the costs keep growing.
I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.
Where the $700 goes:
• Physiotherapy sessions: $100
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $85
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $410
• Post-operative medication: $30
• Travel and lodging for the family: $75
I hope life is good to you.

so sorry you're going through this, Samir. I hope things turn around soon. My neighbor in Stellenbosch donated after I showed her your page.
Hope things get better soon, Samir. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. My husband and I read this together. Greetings from Dar es Salaam.
This could happen to any of us. Thinking of Zagazig
