Since 2020, our volunteer team has run the Harvest Pantry every Saturday from the back of the mosque courtyard. We started with 30 families, and now we feed 262 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 58% this rainy season, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 12 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Awka market and keep every receipt.
Each $5 feeds a family of four for a week.
All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs.
Where the $450 goes:
• Refrigeration and electricity: $55
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $150
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $245
I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.

Wishing you the best, Queen. Gave what I could, wish it was more. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it. Take care.
Best of luck. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. I'm in farming myself and wanted you to know we're cheering for you. All the best.
Stay strong, Queen. More neighborhoods should do this. I went through something like this 4 years ago and strangers helped me out.
So sorry you're going through this. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. I went through something like this 8 years ago and strangers helped me out.
Good luck. It takes guts to ask. Well done. Thinking of Awka
