Oleksandr is the first person in the family to go to university. He is studying a degree in social work at Odesa Community College, and is one term away from graduating. He has worked as a night-shift cleaner to pay the way, but this term the hours were cut and there's an unpaid balance of $300.
The registrar has said Oleksandr can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. Oleksandr has a 3.8 average, and a professor has written in support.
Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support the younger siblings. Without enrolling this term Oleksandr would lose his place and scholarship eligibility.
Oleksandr isn't asking for a handout - He wants to finish what He started and help the next student.
Everything raised goes to the university's accounts office toward the outstanding balance and the final term's fees.
Where the $300 goes:
• Exam and lab fees: $45
• Textbooks and materials: $35
• Final term tuition: $220
