Tiruchirappalli
In July I was diagnosed with an aortic valve defect. My surgeon at Tiruchirappalli General Hospital recommended a craniotomy, and I have been placed on the schedule for September. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $1,450, and after what the public health scheme will pay, I'm still $1,150 short. Doctors at Tiruchirappalli General Hospital told me an aortic valve defect will get worse without a craniotomy. I work as a warehouse packer, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $1,450 is far beyond what I've. Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a warehouse packer have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk. Rehabilitation is expected to take about 8 weeks. I'll not be able to stand for more than ten minutes during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one. The money goes straight to the treatment bills, and I'll share the invoices as they're paid so you can see exactly what your gift did. Where the $1,150 goes: • Travel and lodging for the family: $50 • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $600 • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $100 • Hospital stay (3 nights): $400 I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support. - Dhanalakshmi

  • Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Dhanalakshmi.

    • Travel and lodging for the family is $50 of it. Everything else is listed in the story and nothing outside that list comes out of this page. Let me know if you want more detail.
