Ida was diagnosed with a cleft palate needing repair in June. The surgeon at Berlin Orthopedic Institute recommended hip replacement surgery, and She is scheduled for August. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $7,000, and after what our health plan will pay we're still $4,250 short. my sister has been in and out of Berlin Orthopedic Institute since June. The doctors say a cleft palate needing repair will get worse without hip replacement surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $7,000 is more than we can find. While we wait, Ida struggles with daily life and can't walk without help. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. The recovery period is expected to take about 5 weeks. During that time Ida won't be able to walk without help, so the costs keep growing. The money goes straight to the treatment bills, and I'll share the invoices as they're paid so you can see exactly what your gift did. Where the $4,250 goes: • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $3,800 • Post-operative medication: $180 • Travel and lodging for the family: $270 I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.
