Duque de Caxias
The flood hit the Hillcrest district on 20 August. My home was one of 48 damaged, and 6 families are still in temporary shelter at the community hall. The first few days we shared what little we had. Now the cleanup has started, but we've no money for materials and winter or the rainy season is coming. Schools in the area have been closed, and the clinic lost its cold storage for vaccines. We're a small community of working families who have never asked for help before. We have formed a volunteer committee, and I'm the treasurer, so I'll post receipts for everything we buy. Funds go to building materials, water purification supplies, bedding, and food for families still in shelters. Where the $800 goes: • Food parcels for displaced families: $220 • Clean water and purification supplies: $350 • Bedding, blankets and mattresses: $230 With deep gratitude, Camila

Wishing you the best, Camila. Your post was clear and honest. I'm in hospitality myself and wanted you to know we're cheering for you. Thinking of Duque de Caxias.

    • Shared it with a few friends. After 15 years in engineering I know how hard it's to ask for anything. God bless.

      • Rooting for you, Camila. I hope things turn around soon. Take care.

        • This could happen to any of us. After 21 years in construction I know how hard it's to ask for anything.

          • Thinking of you and your family. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. Don't be hard on yourself for asking. God bless.
