Fighting kidney cancer: help Metin afford treatment in Istanbul

Metin is facing kidney cancer and the cost of treatment, travel and care at home is far beyond what the family can cover.

In May I was diagnosed with kidney cancer. My oncology team at Istanbul University Hospital has planned 12 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in August. I was told to expect about 3 weeks away from work. I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 24, I worked as a primary school teacher until May, and I have been the main earner for my household. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Istanbul University Hospital 2 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly. My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries. I'll post every invoice and receipt as an update so donors can follow where each gift goes. Where the $2,100 goes: • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $1,100 • Scans and lab work: $380 • Transport to Istanbul University Hospital: $180 • Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $140 • Household costs while unable to work: $300 Thanks for being kind about this. - Metin

Updates from Metin

  1. Thank you all. We're at 29% now ($600). I'm honestly stunned. I met with the treatment center and confirmed the amounts. - Metin

  2. Good news. Because of your gifts ($238 in total) I met with the treatment center and confirmed the amounts. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.
