In April I was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma. My oncology team at Auckland University Hospital has planned 12 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in July. I was told to expect about 4 weeks away from work.
I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 40, I worked as a farmer until April, and I have been the main earner for my household.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Auckland University Hospital 2 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly.
My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries.
Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment.
Where the $5,850 goes:
• Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $3,250
• Household costs while unable to work: $1,850
• Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $300
• Transport to Auckland University Hospital: $450

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Kauri.
Sure. The biggest one is chemotherapy and medication not covered, $3,250. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. It helps to be asked.
