Fighting cervical cancer: help Brett afford treatment in Richards Bay

Brett is facing cervical cancer and the cost of treatment, travel and care at home is far beyond what the family can cover.

Richards Bay
Brett was diagnosed with cervical cancer in December. The oncology team at the Richards Bay Oncology Institute has planned 10 rounds of treatment, starting in March. He will be away from work for about 3 weeks. Brett is 48, worked as a farmer until December, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after him. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to the Richards Bay Oncology Institute 2 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly. We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off his shoulders. Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment. Where the $2,650 goes: • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $1,800 • Scans and lab work: $190 • Transport to the Richards Bay Oncology Institute: $175 • Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $110 • Household costs while unable to work: $375 Thanks for reading all this.

  • is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Brett

    • Everything on the list is an amount I've been quoted or invoiced. chemotherapy and medication not covered comes first ($1,800) and I'll update the page as each thing gets paid. Good question.

Take care, Shanice. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. All the best.
