The Bread & Beans Kitchen pantry in San Francisco is running low just as demand rises; $3,800 will stock it for 11 weeks.

Since 2021, our volunteer team has run Bread & Beans Kitchen every Sunday from the back of a community center. We started with 20 families, and now we feed 291 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 37% this winter, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 14 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the San Francisco market and keep every receipt.
Each $55 feeds a family of four for a week.
All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs.
Where the $3,800 goes:
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $1,750
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $1,000
• Baby formula and diapers: $770
• Refrigeration and electricity: $280
