Port Harcourt
Since 2021, our volunteer team has run Bread & Beans Kitchen every Friday from the back of a borrowed garage. We started with 21 families, and now we feed 159 each week. Donations have dropped by about 56% this winter, while the line has grown every single week. We rely on volunteers - 16 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Port Harcourt market and keep every receipt. Each $5 feeds a family of four for a week. I'll post the weekly shopping receipts and a photo of the shelves each Sunday. Where the $500 goes: • Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $210 • Fresh vegetables and fruit: $150 • Baby formula and diapers: $70 • Refrigeration and electricity: $70 I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.

  • Wishing you the best, Garba. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. My colleague had a similar thing happen so this one hit home. Thinking of Port Harcourt.

    • Hang in there, Garba. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. Greetings from Gothenburg!

      • Thinking of you and your family, Garba. Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it. Take care
