Silvia was diagnosed with an aortic valve defect in April. The surgeon at San Francisco University Hospital recommended laparoscopic cyst removal, and She is scheduled for July. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $4,750, and after what my employer's plan will pay we're still $3,550 short. my mother has been in and out of San Francisco University Hospital since April. The doctors say an aortic valve defect will get worse without laparoscopic cyst removal. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $4,750 is more than we can find. While we wait, Silvia struggles with daily life and can't look after the children alone. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. The recovery period is expected to take about 10 weeks. During that time Silvia won't be able to look after the children alone, so the costs keep growing. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $3,550 goes: • Post-operative medication: $250 • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $2,600 • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $530 • Travel and lodging for the family: $170 I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen.

Wishing you peace. I work in healthcare and wanted you to know people are on your side. After 14 years in engineering I know how hard it's to ask for anything. Blessings.

    • Wishing you the best. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. My daughter saw me on my phone and now she wants to give her pocket money. Blessings.
