The the Sunday Shelf pantry in Newcastle upon Tyne is running low just as demand rises; $3,600 will stock it for 11 weeks.

Since 2022, our volunteer team has run the Sunday Shelf every Wednesday from the back of a borrowed garage. We started with 9 families, and now we feed 114 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 44% this rainy season, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 12 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Newcastle upon Tyne market and keep every receipt.
Each $30 feeds a family of four for a week.
All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs.
Where the $3,600 goes:
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $1,550
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $1,150
• Baby formula and diapers: $540
• Refrigeration and electricity: $360
