The Bread & Beans Kitchen pantry in Vancouver is running low just as demand rises; $3,000 will stock it for 10 weeks.

Since 2022, our volunteer team has run Bread & Beans Kitchen every Saturday from the back of a borrowed garage. We started with 30 families, and now we feed 106 each week. Donations have dropped by about 58% this rainy season, while the line has grown every single week. We rely on volunteers - 17 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Vancouver market and keep every receipt. Each $55 feeds a family of four for a week. I'll post the weekly shopping receipts and a photo of the shelves each Sunday. Where the $3,000 goes: • Fresh vegetables and fruit: $1,100 • Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $1,750 • Refrigeration and electricity: $150 Please ask me anything in the questions section. I'll answer honestly and quickly. - Mason

  • rooting for you, Mason. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it. God bless.

    • Hope things get better soon, Mason. Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. Our whole street has been following this since the weekend. Love from Los Angeles.

      • Hang in there. Gave what I could, wish it was more. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry.

        • Thinking of you, Mason. More neighborhoods should do this. I went through something like this 4 years ago and strangers helped me out
