In April I was diagnosed with cervical cancer. My oncology team at Orlando Regional Medical Center has planned 4 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in July. I was told to expect about 6 weeks away from work.
I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 50, I worked as a shop owner until April, and I have been the main earner for my household.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Orlando Regional Medical Center 4 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly.
My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries.
Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment.
Where the $4,450 goes:
• Scans and lab work: $990
• Household costs while unable to work: $2,050
• Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $460
• Transport to Orlando Regional Medical Center: $950

Hang in there. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. My brother had a similar thing happen so this one hit home.
