Emergency hernia repair for Yaroslav: covering what insurance won't
A scheduled emergency hernia repair in August is out of reach without help covering $2,000 of the cost.

In June I was diagnosed with a torn ligament that needs reconstruction. My surgeon at Moscow General Hospital recommended emergency hernia repair, and I have been placed on the schedule for August. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $2,500, and after what the public health scheme will pay, I'm still $2,000 short.
Doctors at Moscow General Hospital told me a torn ligament that needs reconstruction will get worse without emergency hernia repair. I work as a retail assistant, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $2,500 is far beyond what I've.
Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a retail assistant have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk.
The recovery period is expected to take about 7 weeks. I'll not be able to look after the children alone during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one.
I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.
Where the $2,000 goes:
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $610
• Hospital stay (5 nights): $880
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $140
• Post-operative medication: $70
• Physiotherapy sessions: $200
• Travel and lodging for the family: $100
Ask me anything below before you decide. I'd rather you were sure.
