Unathi was diagnosed with an aortic valve defect in August. The surgeon at Polokwane Community Hospital recommended emergency hernia repair, and She is scheduled for November. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $2,900, and after what our health plan will pay we're still $1,450 short. my sister has been in and out of Polokwane Community Hospital since August. The doctors say an aortic valve defect will get worse without emergency hernia repair. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $2,900 is more than we can find. While we wait, Unathi struggles with daily life and can't look after the children alone. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. The recovery period is expected to take about 10 weeks. During that time Unathi won't be able to look after the children alone, so the costs keep growing. The money goes straight to the treatment bills, and I'll share the invoices as they're paid so you can see exactly what your gift did. Where the $1,450 goes: • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $400 • Hospital stay (4 nights): $540 • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $140 • Post-operative medication: $80 • Physiotherapy sessions: $145 • Travel and lodging for the family: $145 Every share and every dollar helps. - Kagiso
