Patrícia was diagnosed with a torn ligament that needs reconstruction in January. The surgeon at São Paulo General Hospital recommended emergency hernia repair, and She is scheduled for May. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $3,000, and after what my insurance will pay we're still $1,800 short. my wife has been in and out of São Paulo General Hospital since January. The doctors say a torn ligament that needs reconstruction will get worse without emergency hernia repair. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $3,000 is more than we can find. While we wait, Patrícia struggles with daily life and can't look after the children alone. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. The recovery period is expected to take about 8 weeks. During that time Patrícia won't be able to look after the children alone, so the costs keep growing. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $1,800 goes: • Hospital stay (4 nights): $820 • Travel and lodging for the family: $85 • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $760 • Post-operative medication: $135 Thank you for reading my story. - Leonardo

take care. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. I'm in accounting myself and wanted you to know we're cheering for you. Take care.

      • Praying for you, Leonardo. This could happen to any of us. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. God bless

                • Best of luck. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it.
