Dorcas's final semester of a law degree in Kasarani

Dorcas has worked and saved for five years to study a law degree; a $800 gap now stands between her and graduation.

Kasarani
I'm the first person in my family to go to university. I'm studying a law degree at Kasarani Polytechnic, and I'm two terms away from graduating. I have worked as a night-shift cleaner to pay my way, but this term my hours were cut and I have an unpaid balance of $800. The registrar has told me I can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. I have a top-ten-percent average, and my faculty supervisor has written in support of my application for a payment plan. Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support my younger siblings. Without enrolling this term I'd lose my place and my scholarship eligibility. I'm not asking for a handout - I want to finish what I started and then help the next student. The payment will go directly to the Kasarani Polytechnic bursar's office. I'll post the receipt. Where the $800 goes: • Outstanding tuition balance: $230 • Final term tuition: $510 • Exam and lab fees: $50 • Textbooks and materials: $10 I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to.

  • Hope it all works out, Dorcas. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Put this on a community board in Salem this morning. Blessings.

    • Sending good thoughts. I hope things turn around soon. After 12 years in customer support I know how hard it's to ask for anything.

      • Wishing you peace. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. It's not much but it's yours. Take care.
