Dignity in old age: caring for Vijay
Vijay, 79, needs daily care to stay at home, and the family is raising $1,000 for a carer and medicines.

I'm caring for my father, who's 79. After a fall and hip fracture Vijay can no longer manage alone. A nursing home would cost far more than we have, and Vijay desperately wants to stay at home.
I work 50 hours a week and have cut back to look after him, but we need a part-time carer.
Vijay worked all of his life as a carpenter, and raised 4 children. Now we're trying to give some of that care back.
Medication, a hospital bed and a carer for eight months will make a huge difference.
The carer will be employed through a registered agency and paid directly. I'll share the agency invoices.
Where the $1,000 goes:
• Part-time carer (eight months): $740
• Medication and prescriptions: $105
• Hospital bed and mattress rental: $25
• Mobility aids and bathroom adaptations: $130
