Dignity in old age: caring for Samanthi
Samanthi, 80, needs daily care to stay at home, and the family is raising $500 for a carer and medicines.

I'm caring for my mother, who's 80. After worsening Parkinson's disease Samanthi can no longer manage alone. A nursing home would cost far more than we have, and Samanthi desperately wants to stay at home.
I work 50 hours a week and have cut back to look after her, but we need a part-time carer.
Samanthi worked all of her life as a farmer, and raised 4 children. Now we're trying to give some of that care back.
Medication, a hospital bed and a carer for three months will make a huge difference.
Funds cover the carer's wages, medicines, a hospital bed rental and incontinence supplies.
Where the $500 goes:
• Part-time carer (three months): $370
• Mobility aids and bathroom adaptations: $85
• Hospital bed and mattress rental: $45
Please ask me anything in the questions section. I'll answer honestly and quickly.

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Samanthi.
Sure. The biggest one is part-time carer (three months), $370. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. Appreciate you taking the time.
Thanks for sharing this. Look after yourselves too, caregivers need rest. Thinking of Negombo.
Shared this with my family. My husband and I read this together. Thinking of Negombo.
looking forward to the next update. We're a small family in Philadelphia but we're thinking of you
Sending good thoughts, Chaminda. Look after yourselves too, caregivers need rest. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. Thinking of Negombo.
