Dignity in old age: caring for Ricardo
Ricardo, 84, needs daily care to stay at home, and the family is raising $850 for a carer and medicines.

I'm caring for me, who's 84. After a fall and hip fracture Ricardo can no longer manage alone. A nursing home would cost far more than we have, and Ricardo desperately wants to stay at home.
I work 40 hours a week and have cut back to look after him, but we need a part-time carer.
Ricardo worked all of his life as a seamstress, and raised 5 children. Now we're trying to give some of that care back.
Medication, a hospital bed and a carer for four months will make a huge difference.
The carer will be employed through a registered agency and paid directly. I'll share the agency invoices.

• Hospital bed and mattress rental: $65
