I'm caring for me, who's 91. After a diagnosis of dementia Nihal can no longer manage alone. A nursing home would cost far more than we have, and Nihal desperately wants to stay at home.
I work 40 hours a week and have cut back to look after her, but we need a part-time carer.
Nihal worked all of her life as a schoolteacher, and raised 3 children. Now we're trying to give some of that care back.
Medication, a hospital bed and a carer for four months will make a huge difference.
The carer will be employed through a registered agency and paid directly. I'll share the agency invoices.
Where the $900 goes:
• Part-time carer (four months): $630
• Medication and prescriptions: $145
• Hospital bed and mattress rental: $80
• Mobility aids and bathroom adaptations: $45
Please ask me anything in the questions section. I'll answer honestly and quickly.

is part-time carer (four months) the biggest cost or is there more coming?
Part-time carer (four months) is $630 of it. Everything else is listed in the story and nothing outside that list comes out of this page.
Sending love, Nihal. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did.
