Dignity in old age: caring for Massimo
Massimo, 79, needs daily care to stay at home, and the family is raising $2,950 for a carer and medicines.

I'm caring for me, who's 79. After worsening Parkinson's disease Massimo can no longer manage alone. A nursing home would cost far more than we have, and Massimo desperately wants to stay at home.
I work 40 hours a week and have cut back to look after him, but we need a part-time carer.
Massimo worked all of his life as a seamstress, and raised 2 children. Now we're trying to give some of that care back.
Medication, a hospital bed and a carer for eight months will make a huge difference.
The carer will be employed through a registered agency and paid directly. I'll share the agency invoices.
Where the $2,950 goes:
• Part-time carer (eight months): $1,700
• Medication and prescriptions: $510
• Hospital bed and mattress rental: $300
• Mobility aids and bathroom adaptations: $440

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Massimo.
Sure. The biggest one is part-time carer (eight months), $1,700. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. Fair thing to want to know.
