Dignity in old age: caring for Leila
Leila, 86, needs daily care to stay at home, and the family is raising $550 for a carer and medicines.

I'm caring for my mother, who's 86. After the death of her spouse Leila can no longer manage alone. A nursing home would cost far more than we have, and Leila desperately wants to stay at home.
I work 30 hours a week and have cut back to look after her, but we need a part-time carer.
Leila worked all of her life as a seamstress, and raised 3 children. Now we're trying to give some of that care back.
Medication, a hospital bed and a carer for three months will make a huge difference.
Funds cover the carer's wages, medicines, a hospital bed rental and incontinence supplies.
Where the $550 goes:
• Part-time carer (three months): $380
• Mobility aids and bathroom adaptations: $100
• Hospital bed and mattress rental: $70

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Leila!
The list at the bottom is the whole picture. part-time carer (three months) is the biggest at $380. Fair thing to want to know.
