Dignity in old age: caring for Kendall
Kendall, 96, needs daily care to stay at home, and the family is raising $4,650 for a carer and medicines.

I'm caring for my mother, who's 96. After worsening Parkinson's disease Kendall can no longer manage alone. A nursing home would cost far more than we have, and Kendall desperately wants to stay at home.
I work 50 hours a week and have cut back to look after her, but we need a part-time carer.
Kendall worked all of her life as a nurse, and raised 5 children. Now we're trying to give some of that care back.
Medication, a hospital bed and a carer for eight months will make a huge difference.
Funds cover the carer's wages, medicines, a hospital bed rental and incontinence supplies.
Where the $4,650 goes:
• Hospital bed and mattress rental: $290
• Medication and prescriptions: $750
• Part-time carer (eight months): $3,610

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Kendall.
Sure. The biggest one is hospital bed and mattress rental, $290. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one.
