Dignity in old age: caring for Emilio
Emilio, 86, needs daily care to stay at home, and the family is raising $1,250 for a carer and medicines.

I'm caring for my father, who's 86. After a fall and hip fracture Emilio can no longer manage alone. A nursing home would cost far more than we have, and Emilio desperately wants to stay at home.
I work 50 hours a week and have cut back to look after him, but we need a part-time carer.
Emilio worked all of his life as a nurse, and raised 5 children. Now we're trying to give some of that care back.
Medication, a hospital bed and a carer for six months will make a huge difference.
The carer will be employed through a registered agency and paid directly. I'll share the agency invoices.
Where the $1,250 goes:
• Medication and prescriptions: $115
• Part-time carer (six months): $1,050
• Hospital bed and mattress rental: $85
