Dignity in old age: caring for Colleen
Colleen, 91, needs daily care to stay at home, and the family is raising $5,600 for a carer and medicines.

I'm caring for me, who's 91. After a stroke last July Colleen can no longer manage alone. A nursing home would cost far more than we have, and Colleen desperately wants to stay at home.
I work 50 hours a week and have cut back to look after her, but we need a part-time carer.
Colleen worked all of her life as a shopkeeper, and raised 2 children. Now we're trying to give some of that care back.
Medication, a hospital bed and a carer for eight months will make a huge difference.
Funds cover the carer's wages, medicines, a hospital bed rental and incontinence supplies.
Where the $5,600 goes:
• Part-time carer (eight months): $4,450
• Medication and prescriptions: $420
• Hospital bed and mattress rental: $230
• Mobility aids and bathroom adaptations: $500
