Clean water and shade for Jakarta Selatan: restoring Union Beach
A neighborhood-led restoration of Union Beach needs $350 for saplings and equipment.
🇮🇩 Indonesia755 views
Union Beach has been used as an informal dump for years. This June, 120 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 122 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the local forestry office, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $350 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $150
• Waste removal and skip hire: $135
• Tools and protective gear: $65
Thanks for being kind about this.

reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. Thinking of Jakarta Selatan.
Sending strength, Nur. More neighborhoods should do this. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. Love from San Francisco.
good luck, Nur. Gave what I could, wish it was more. Put this on a community board in Minneapolis this morning. God bless.
