Clean water and shade for Galway: restoring Baobab Creek
Volunteers are restoring Baobab Creek in Galway; $1,250 covers saplings, tools and waste removal.
🇮🇪 Ireland742 views
Baobab Creek has been used as an informal dump for years. This May, 92 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 78 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the city parks department, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $1,250 goes:
• Waste removal and skip hire: $600
• Tools and protective gear: $500
• Signage and educational materials: $150

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Colleen!
Sure. The biggest one is waste removal and skip hire, $600. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. Ask me anything else.
Thinking of you. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. We're a small family in Kadıköy but we're thinking of you.
Hope this works out for you. Put this on a community board in Kyiv this morning.
hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. Love from Shubra.
Keep going, Colleen. It takes guts to ask. Well done. Take care.
