Clean streams for Macon: restoring the Freedom canal
Volunteers are restoring the Freedom canal in Macon; $2,150 covers saplings, tools and waste removal.
🇺🇸 Georgia, United States3,201 views
The Freedom canal has been used as an informal dump for years. This March, 34 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 70 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the local forestry office, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $2,150 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $820
• Tools and protective gear: $460
• Waste removal and skip hire: $660
• Signage and educational materials: $210
I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen.

So sorry you're going through this, Feng. Hope this works out for you. Thinking of Macon.
Shared this with my family. The breakdown of costs made it easy to trust. Greetings from Accra.
Sending strength, Feng. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it. Thinking of Macon.
