Clean air and water for Mumbai: restoring Freedom Beach
Volunteers are restoring Freedom Beach in Mumbai; $350 covers saplings, tools and waste removal.
Anywhere in the world824 views
Freedom Beach has been used as an informal dump for years. This June, 89 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 152 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the district council, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $350 goes:
• Signage and educational materials: $35
• Waste removal and skip hire: $110
• Native saplings and stakes: $205
You're what makes this possible, and I'll never forget it.

Sending good thoughts, Dinesh. More neighborhoods should do this. Take care.
Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. My daughter saw me on my phone and now she wants to give her pocket money.
Best of luck, Dinesh. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. We're a small family in Peoria but we're thinking of you.
Is there anything that isn't money that would help Dinesh?
Hope this works out for you. Greetings from Hamilton.
Praying for you, Dinesh. Hope this works out for you.
So sorry you're going through this. I hope things turn around soon. Please keep us posted. God bless.
Shared this with my family. Thinking of Mumbai.
Hope things get better soon, Dinesh. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected
Good luck. This could happen to any of us. It's not much but it's yours. All the best.
