Chiamaka was diagnosed with a large ovarian cyst in May. The surgeon at Ibadan Regional Medical Center recommended spinal decompression surgery, and She is scheduled for September. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $640, and after what the government subsidy will pay we're still $450 short. my mother has been in and out of Ibadan Regional Medical Center since May. The doctors say a large ovarian cyst will get worse without spinal decompression surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $640 is more than we can find. While we wait, Chiamaka struggles with daily life and can't work a full shift. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. The recovery period is expected to take about 4 weeks. During that time Chiamaka won't be able to work a full shift, so the costs keep growing. The money goes straight to the treatment bills, and I'll share the invoices as they're paid so you can see exactly what your gift did. Where the $450 goes: • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $310 • Travel and lodging for the family: $50 • Physiotherapy sessions: $90 I hope life is good to you. - Emeka

Updates from Emeka

  1. Thank you all. We're at 7% now ($30). I'm honestly stunned. I made the first payment toward physiotherapy sessions.
