I'm caring for my father, who's 82. After worsening Parkinson's disease Nonso can no longer manage alone. A nursing home would cost far more than we have, and Nonso desperately wants to stay at home.
I work 30 hours a week and have cut back to look after him, but we need a part-time carer.
Nonso worked all of his life as a shopkeeper, and raised 3 children. Now we're trying to give some of that care back.
Medication, a hospital bed and a carer for three months will make a huge difference.
Funds cover the carer's wages, medicines, a hospital bed rental and incontinence supplies.
Where the $500 goes:
• Part-time carer (three months): $350
• Medication and prescriptions: $55
• Hospital bed and mattress rental: $65
• Mobility aids and bathroom adaptations: $30

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Nonso!
Sure. The biggest one is part-time carer (three months), $350. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one.
Hang in there. Look after yourselves too, caregivers need rest. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. Take care.
