ACL reconstruction for Randall: covering what insurance won't

Randall was diagnosed with gallstones with repeated infections in July. The surgeon at Hamilton Orthopedic Institute recommended ACL reconstruction, and He is scheduled for October. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $11,000, and after what my employer's plan will pay we're still $5,500 short.
my husband has been in and out of Hamilton Orthopedic Institute since July. The doctors say gallstones with repeated infections will get worse without ACL reconstruction. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $11,000 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Randall struggles with daily life and can't lift anything heavy. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
Rehabilitation is expected to take about 8 weeks. During that time Randall won't be able to lift anything heavy, so the costs keep growing.
